Horizon Village and Resort is situated amongst a beautiful and elegant Botanical Garden. Its architectural design is based on on Northern Thai / Lanna architecture. The house floor, for instance, is raised high off the ground by several supporting pillars in anticipation of flooding in the rainy season and to provide a place under the house for such work as weaving, carving, and textile dyeing during the dry season. The roof is slanted to provide a run off for rain and hosts the distinct galae from which this Lanna architecture derives its name. An extension of the beams framing the two legs of the triangle forming the roof, the galee is in itself a masterpiece of woodcarving. Some say this obvious protrusion was put in place to scare off crows and ravens believed by superstition to bring bad luck from perching on the roof. Others believe it was installed by the Burmese after their conquest of Northern Thailand in order that houses where Thais resided might be easily identified. Still others hold that the galae is but a logical extension put in place to strengthen the frame and only in latter days was it whittled into an object of beauty and fascination under the craftsman tools. From Chiang Mai Airport/CNX/..............20km NE Drive to Mahidol Road after leaving the airport terminal. This road leads you to Sankampaeng District. When driving through a tunnel under the bridge, turn left on the first intersection on the Ring road. Drive on until you see another tunnel. Drive through this tunnel and you will find Payap University on your left. Drive past Payap University and turn right at the intersection for Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai road /highway number 118/. You will find Sam Yaeg Market on your left hand side. Drive straight on until you pass the traffic light and you will see another intersection. Drive straight on and keep going for another 15 kms, you will see a sign for turn left to Doi Saket, follow this road for another 15 Kms and the resort in on your left hand side. The resort is in the same area with Taveechol Botanical Garden.
